What advice would you give someone coming out to their parents?

That's a really tough question to answer when you don't know the person in question, or their parents. I think it's very important to love yourself the way you are, and it's really hard to do that while keeping such a big secret, so I don't think anyone should stay in the closet.

At the same time, you have to contemplate their possible reaction as well as your timing. My parents were magnificent, and I knew they would be cool with it, so I didn't have much to worry about. If you don't think your parents are going to be wild about it, and you expect to be living with them for a while yet, I'd wait a bit.

My point is, definitely do it, but also make sure you are in a safe and healthy environment when you do. Coming out is supposed to be a liberating experience, but it can be easily shot down by a closed mind.
